Letterpress copybook, 1893-1897.

Letterpress copybook, 1893 Jan. 1 - 1897 Nov. 9, indexed, of the outgoing letters of the law firm, regarding legal duties undertaken by that firm for clients, and fees for same. Most of the letters are typed, and some describe claims made in great detail. Of the claims that went to court in Ala., most were decided in the chancery court system, though some cases discussed were filed in either the circuit court, or in the probate court. At least one murder case was appealed to the Ala. Supreme Court. Many letters were with clients in Tenn. or Ga., as well as with clients in Ala.

On or about 1895 Aug. 1, the firm became Appling and McGuire, and on 1895 Dec. 10, the firm became Appling, McGuire and Appling. By 1896 Jan. 10 the firm's name reverted to Appling and McGuire.
